Privacy Policy
Good Book is built around private scripture reading and reflection. This policy explains what information the app and website handle, why it is needed, and the choices available to you.
1. Scope and our role
This Privacy Policy applies to the Good Book iOS application, Home Screen widget, website, and related services (the “Service”). Idioglossia, LLC is the controller of the personal information described here. Service providers such as Supabase, OpenRouter, downstream AI model providers, Vercel, and Apple process information for their respective roles.
Good Book does not sell personal information, serve advertising, or use your information to track you across apps or websites owned by other companies. We do not use reflections or discussion content for advertising.
2. Information we collect
We collect information you provide, information created when you use Good Book, and limited technical information needed to operate the Service. Some information stays only on your device, as explained below.
- Account and contact information
- Your email address, account identifier, account dates, authentication status, and a display or given name if you provide one. Sign in with Apple may provide an Apple-scoped identifier, email address, and name according to your Apple choices. Email/password credentials are processed by Supabase Auth; Good Book does not intentionally store plaintext passwords.
- Saved and authored content
- Favorites, private reflections, scripture references and snapshots, discussion questions, AI-generated replies, conversation titles, and related timestamps. Reflections and discussions may reveal religious beliefs, doubts, relationships, health concerns, or other sensitive facts you choose to write.
- Activity and preferences
- Scripture and passage identifiers and the latest times they were selected, viewed, shared, or discussed; profile and delivery preferences; onboarding assignment and progress; free-feature usage; and content-free events such as completing the system share sheet. Good Book does not learn whether a recipient opened or acted on a share.
- Installation and service usage
- A random identifier generated for the app installation and first/last app open times. The record may become associated with your account after sign in. Good Book does not use the advertising identifier or retain hardware identifiers, precise location, device details, or private content in this app-open record.
- AI operation metadata
- Model and provider names, request identifiers, outcome, latency, token counts, and provider-reported cost. Good Book keeps this billing and reliability telemetry separate from reflections, prompts, and responses.
- Purchase information
- If you purchase premium access, Good Book may receive the product, transaction identifier, entitlement status, purchase and expiration dates, and offer status needed to provide and restore access. Apple processes your payment method; Good Book does not receive your complete card details.
- Support and technical information
- Information you include when contacting us. Our infrastructure providers may process IP address, request time, response status, and similar network logs needed to deliver, secure, and troubleshoot the Service. Apple may provide diagnostics or sales information according to your Apple settings.
3. Information that stays on your device
- The complete display text of the current Berean Standard Bible and the normal feed-selection process are bundled with and run within the app. Ordinary scripture browsing does not send each verse you read to a server, although compact latest activity timestamps can synchronize to your account.
- Favorites, reflections, preferences, activity, and pending changes are stored in account-scoped local storage so supported features can work offline, then synchronize when a connection is available.
- Authentication sessions are stored in the iOS Keychain. The widget receives a cached displayable verse, schedule information, and sign-in state through the app group, but not your Supabase refresh token.
- Good Book requests add-only Photos permission only when you choose to save a rendered passage image. It does not use that permission to read your photo library.
- Notification permission is optional. Good Book currently schedules local reminders on your device and does not operate a remote push-notification pipeline for scripture delivery.
4. How we use information
- create, authenticate, secure, and support your account;
- provide scripture reading, saving, reflection, sharing, widgets, reminders, and synchronization;
- generate and preserve AI-assisted discussions you request;
- personalize delivery timing and avoid or reduce repetitive selections;
- manage feature availability and account-tier limits;
- measure content-free app opens, reliability, usage, and provider cost;
- detect abuse, investigate errors, protect users, and maintain the Service;
- respond to support, rights, and deletion requests; and
- comply with law and enforce our agreements.
5. AI processing
AI features are optional. When you start or continue a discussion, Good Book sends the question or selected action, trusted scripture context, and relevant prior conversation messages from our Supabase service to OpenRouter. OpenRouter routes the request to the model provider selected by Good Book. The provider returns generated text, which Good Book stores in your private discussion history. A separate provider request may generate a short conversation title.
When you deliberately start a reflection-companion conversation, the text you wrote may be included for that response. Do not submit information you do not want processed by these providers. OpenRouter states that it does not use inputs or outputs to train its own models, but downstream model providers have their own retention and training practices, which can vary by model and endpoint. See OpenRouter’s Privacy Policy and its provider disclosures. Good Book does not use your reflections, questions, or generated responses to train a Good Book model.
6. When we disclose information
We disclose information only as needed for these purposes:
- Supabase provides authentication, hosted database storage, synchronization, and server functions. Good Book’s hosted project is in the United States. See Supabase’s Privacy Policy.
- OpenRouter and model providers process the AI content and metadata described above.
- Apple provides app distribution, Sign in with Apple, purchases, notifications, system sharing, and optional diagnostics under Apple’s terms and privacy choices.
- Vercel hosts the Good Book website and may process ordinary request and security logs. The public landing and legal pages do not use advertising analytics or marketing cookies. See Vercel’s Privacy Notice.
- Destinations you choose receive content only when you use the system share sheet, copy content, or save an image.
- We may disclose information when reasonably necessary to comply with law, protect rights or safety, investigate fraud or abuse, or complete a merger, financing, acquisition, or sale. A successor must handle personal information consistently with this policy and applicable law.
We require service providers acting on our behalf to use reasonable confidentiality, security, and data-protection measures and to process personal information only for authorized services or as required by law.
7. Retention and deletion
We keep account information and synchronized content while your account is active and for as long as needed to provide the feature. We retain private AI conversation history so you can reopen it. Provider, security, and content-free cost records may be kept as needed for reliability, abuse prevention, accounting, dispute resolution, and legal obligations.
When your account is deleted, Good Book deletes the authentication account and account-linked server records, including profile data, favorites, reflections, preferences, activity, onboarding state, discussion history, and account-linked cost records, subject to legally permitted backup and security retention. The random installation/open record may remain after its account link is removed; it contains no user content, email, hardware identifier, or device details.
Account-scoped caches can remain on a device after sign-out so offline changes are not silently destroyed. Removing the app clears its local app container. When in-app account deletion is confirmed by the server, Good Book removes that account’s local caches and pending offline changes from the device. A failed or interrupted deletion keeps local data so the request can be retried safely. Backup and infrastructure copies may take additional time to age out and remain protected while retained.
8. Your choices and privacy rights
- You can edit or remove favorites and reflections and update available profile and delivery settings in the app.
- You can decline notifications or Photos access and change those permissions later in iOS Settings. Core reading remains available without those permissions.
- You can choose not to use AI-assisted discussions or not to send a reflection to the reflection companion.
- You may request access, correction, deletion, or a portable copy of your personal information, or object to or restrict processing where local law provides those rights. We may need to verify your identity.
- In the app, open Profile, hold Delete account for two seconds, and confirm. Sign in with Apple accounts must confirm their Apple identity again so Good Book can revoke the associated authorization. You may also request account and data deletion by emailing ericscotteisher@gmail.com from the address associated with your account. Deleting an account is permanent. It does not cancel an Apple subscription; manage billing separately through Apple subscription settings.
Revoking Sign in with Apple authorization or signing out does not by itself delete your Good Book account or synchronized content.
9. Legal bases and international transfers
Where a legal basis is required, we process information to perform our contract with you by providing the Service; with your consent for optional permissions and features where applicable; for legitimate interests such as security, support, reliability, and content-free service measurement; and to comply with legal obligations. You may withdraw consent for future processing without affecting processing already performed lawfully.
Good Book and its providers process information in the United States and may process it in other countries where they operate. These countries may have different privacy laws. Where required, we use lawful transfer mechanisms and provider contractual safeguards.
10. Security
Good Book uses safeguards designed to protect personal information, including encrypted network transport, Keychain storage for credentials, account-scoped local stores, server-side authorization, and restricted access to private database records. No system is perfectly secure. Please use a unique password, protect your Apple Account and device, and contact us if you suspect unauthorized access.
11. Children
Good Book is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child under 13 has provided personal information, contact us so we can investigate and delete it. Users who are not old enough to consent where they live need a parent or guardian’s permission.
12. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as Good Book changes. We will revise the effective date and provide additional notice of material changes when required. The version posted here applies from its effective date.
